Introduction of thermal insulation
There are three general material types into which thermal insulation materials can be categorized: thermal insulation materials filled in the interspaces, heat reflective materials, and materials with performances of interspace insulation and heat reflective insulation. The thermal material of the void insulates thermal utilizing voids inside because of low thermal conductivity of air or inert gas in voids. This kind of insulation material includes foam materials, fiber materials, etc. The thermal reflective material has a very high reflection coefficient so that they can reflect heat. The kind of material is available, for example, gold, silver, nickel, aluminum foil or polyester coated with metals, polyimide film, etc. Commonly, the third type is often heat insulation composites or highly effective thermal insulation materials.
Thermal insulation materials are the materials or composites which are not easy to transfer heat and have a strong resistance to thermal convection. They are loosening, porous and of light weight, so they have functions of heat or cold preservation, thermal insulation, sound absorption and sound elimination. In general, heat insulation material includes the above materials of the first type and the third type. Thermal insulation materials can be classified into organic thermal materials (or organic heat proof materials) and inorganic thermal materials (or inorganic heat proof materials).
The thermal preservation material is strictly defined as the material or composite that all used to keep the object temperature constant or delay the change of the temperature.
